Director, Human Resources

North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics (NCSSM), Durham – High School Diploma, 1999 North Carolina State University – Biochemistry (transferred after changing career goals from veterinary medicine to public service and organizational leadership) Appalachian State University – Bachelor of Science in Sociology Disney College Program – Graduate, 2003 Appalachian State University – Master of Public Administration (MPA) SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP)

Throughout my career, I have sought opportunities to build organizations, develop people, and lead meaningful change. I currently serve as the Director of Human Resources at Western Piedmont Community College and am a member of the President's Cabinet, where I contribute to institutional strategy, organizational effectiveness, workforce planning, policy development, and executive decision-making.

Prior to joining WPCC, I established the first Human Resources Department for the Town of Appomattox, Virginia, creating HR policies, procedures, and systems that continue to support the organization today. My career has also included human resources leadership roles in both public and private higher education, including Randolph College, Sweet Briar College, and consulting work with Averett University, giving me a broad perspective on higher education leadership.

I am a SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) and currently serve as Legislative Director for the Catawba Valley SHRM Chapter, where I help communicate legislative and regulatory developments affecting employers across North Carolina. Throughout my career, I have been trusted to lead complex employee relations matters, Title IX investigations, organizational change initiatives, policy implementation, and cross-functional projects that require collaboration across multiple departments.

One accomplishment I am particularly proud of is helping move human resources beyond a compliance-focused function by emphasizing employee engagement, organizational culture, leadership development, and the overall employee experience. I believe strong workplaces create stronger institutions, and I have intentionally focused my career on building environments where employees can thrive while advancing the mission of public higher education.
